Your Home

Keeping up rent or mortgage payments can make the difference between keeping your home or losing it.

If you are just about to set up home it is worth thinking carefully about what you can afford first.

As well as working out how much rent or mortgage you can afford, remember to think about the extra costs. These include:

  • Council Tax
  • TV licence
  • Gas, electricity, water or other fuel
  • Insurance
  • Repairs or decorating

Remember you can use the Money Advice Service budget planner to make sure you are on track.

Once you are in your home, it’s important to make sure that the money you have coming in covers all the bills, with enough left to live on.
